As Engineer #1 at Ibotta, I architected and built their in-house Business Intelligence & Reporting platform from the ground up—replacing third-party tools and driving measurable cost savings and revenue growth.

Leadership & Ownership

  • Engineer #1 and founding builder of Ibotta's in-house Business Intelligence & Reporting platform, owning architecture, development, scaling, and long-term technical roadmap
  • Served as technical lead on multiple product initiatives, guiding engineering execution and aligning product, analytics, and design stakeholders
  • Mentored engineers through code reviews, onboarding, architecture discussions, and pairing sessions; elevated engineering standards and team maturity
  • Acted as the primary technical liaison to product, analytics, and business teams, translating broad requirements into actionable technical plans
  • Contributed to hiring and evaluation of front-end candidates, influencing team composition and skill distribution

Business Intelligence Platform (Ibotta Performance Portal)

  • Designed, architected, and built Ibotta's first full in-house BI & reporting application, used by enterprise clients and internal teams
  • Fully replaced Looker and Mode, eliminating substantial annual licensing costs while improving performance, data accuracy, and customizability
  • Built high-performance visualization components, advanced filtering, exports, role-based access controls, and scheduled reporting workflows
  • Platform became a major revenue enabler, strengthening client transparency, improving retention, and increasing upsell opportunities

Product & Revenue Impact

  • Architected a new above-the-fold homepage rendering strategy resulting in +$8M incremental annualized advertising revenue
  • Directed and implemented a modern ad trafficking CMS and QA tool, reducing launch times and operational friction
  • Built a real-time budget monitoring and alerting system, preventing overspend and improving campaign insights
  • Co-created Pando, Ibotta's internal React design system and component library

Engineering Execution

  • Delivered full-stack features end-to-end using React, TypeScript, Node.js, AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, Databricks, and internal APIs
  • Operated as a tech lead / EM hybrid, balancing hands-on engineering work with planning, mentoring, and stakeholder alignment
  • Leveraged AI tools (Claude, Gemini, Copilot) to generate test scaffolding, improve specifications, and validate architectural designs
